Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Table

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.

This warrior group features Teor (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at one table would be impossible.

This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.

What Defines the Combat Party

As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might seem mismatched, but the actions of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the team knows exactly where to head next after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his own means, entering the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.

The antagonist then paid off his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a nasty place.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their position as key figures in the influential clan could assist the party reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control the city for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to travel to the remote area in search of the traitor.

What’s Next?

From episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Seekers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can anticipate discovering which characters will be where in the season’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
